Blue Crown Conure For Sale

The blue crown conure for sale, also known as the blue-crowned parakeet, blue-crowned conure or sharp-tailed conure is a smaller green parrot that makes for an ideal pet. Affectionate and playful, this bird has a tendency to mimic its owner. It is thought to be native to large areas of South America, from Colombia in the north to northern Argentina in the south. The blue crown conure measures approximately 11 inches long, including its tail feathers. It is mostly green with a dark blue crown and tail. These birds are made of two subspecies: “T.” c. “cristata” (Cockatiel) from eastern Colombia southward to northern Bolivia, Paraguay and northern Argentina; and “T.” c. “concolor” (Mealy Parrot) from Venezuela and Trinidad southward to northern Argentina.

With a body measuring 15-20 cm (5.9-7.9 in) and weight around 60 grams, the blue-crowned conure is the smallest of the four “Aratinga” species in genus “Aratinga”. The total length ranges from 24–27 cm (9.4-10.6 in). It is mainly green with pale bluish crown feathers, a pale grayish beak, grayish white legs and dark gray iris. Typically the underside of the wing is yellow.

The head feathers are blue and cover most of the head, but they are not as colorful. The tail feathers are long and same color as the rest of the body. It has a unique coloring compared to other types of parrots; the coloring on top of its head. It lacks the yellow markings of some other members of the genus but the long tail feathers are edged yellowish in birds from north of the Amazon River. The Latin name means “sharp-tailed”, referring to the distinct tail.
